24.10.2025 01:43:14 39x read. NEWS Promoting Accountability and Responsibility We began the day with a beautiful prayer service from Malawi province on the theme: Investing the gift of faith. After the spiritual nourishment, we moved to the dining hall to have breakfast. At exactly 9:00 am, we commenced our first session on resolution 13, which discusses accountability and responsibility. The activities was province discussion on Accountability and responsibility and then every province share with the entire group. It was clearly stated in the deliberation that the vow of poverty is not a vow of destitution or carelessness, but a vow of sharing. From the discussion, we highlighted some important points: we are responsible for sharing the materials, and we must exercise prudence in our investments to support the poor. We need to practise evangelical stewardship of resources and invest in ways that further our mission to aid the poor and needy. We avoid investing our resources in risky activities, such as industries that support terrorism. From the discussions, it was clear that brothers supported the idea that internal and external auditing of our accounts is necessary to enhance the sense of accountability. The participants agree on the need to establish a standardised system of financial reporting. At 10:00 am, we took a tea break to energise ourselves. After the break, Malawi province shared with the entire group. It was clear from the sharing that some provinces need more time to become financially autonomous, highlighting the importance of solidarity and additional training, not just for the brothers but also for our collaborators. A province reported that the situation in their country makes it difficult or impossible to start new projects, but they are doing their best to sustain the projects they already have. The result of the discussion also shows some best practices for how communities manage their finances prudently. Regular evaluation of the community's financial statements, living simply, and maintaining a budgeting system have helped the brothers manage their finances. Additionally, professional training is provided to the local bursar. We conclude the day's business by discussing resolution 19, the Apostolic Congress. All provincial groups presented, starting with Indonesia. Among other things, provinces suggested themes and objectives for the Apostolic Congress, including the participants, which comprise the General Council, representatives from the provincial council, and other corroborators. |
