Internationality and Solidarity in the FIC Congregation

Today, the participants of the Workshop were invited to reflect once again on how the FIC Congregation throughout the world lives out international fraternity and concrete solidarity with the poor and Mother Earth as our Common Home, as mandated by the General Chapter 2024. This gathering served as a shared space for learning, helping the Congregation deepen its commitment to internationality and ecological awareness through concrete, meaningful action.

The brothers were reminded that internationality is not merely a matter of sending personnel across regions, but a fundamental identity of the FIC Congregation as one spiritual family that transcends cultures and borders. In the spirit of Resolution 9A, several Provinces have already practised internationality in tangible ways through exchanges and missionary presence. The Indonesian Province has assigned several brothers to serve and learn in Ghana and Malawi, while the Ghana Province has sent two brothers to enrich their religious experience in Indonesia. Living, praying, and working together within the local community has allowed these brothers to learn new languages, appreciate different spiritual expressions, and understand apostolic challenges within diverse cultural contexts.

The workshop also discussed Resolution 10A, which emphasises concrete solidarity through care for the poor and for the integrity of creation. The FIC Solidarity Fund has become an essential means of funding a range of social justice and ecological initiatives. Such initiatives include reducing plastic waste, providing nutritional support for vulnerable students, offering digital training for marginalised groups, mentoring children from disadvantaged backgrounds, and promoting environmental stewardship through tree planting, waste reduction, and energy saving. This spirituality of solidarity is expressed not only through organised programs but also through the daily witness of brothers who live the Gospel value of simplicity.

During the provincial sharing session, participants listened to an inspiring testimony from the Province of Chile, which is currently facing a diminishing number of brothers. Despite this situation, the province courageously continues its mission through strong collaboration with the laity, leadership training, and a well-planned apostolic strategy. Their journey shows that the vitality of the congregation does not depend on numbers, but on perseverance, hope, and fidelity to the founding charism.

In this way, internationality and solidarity are affirmed not as mere structural concepts, but as concrete expressions of FIC religious life: strengthening one another as brothers, standing close to the poor and vulnerable, and caring for the earth as an integral dimension of proclaiming God’s love to the world.
