Day 4 - FIC Extraordinary Chapter

The fourth day of the Brothers FIC Extra-Ordinary Chapter began at 7.30am with an inspiring prayer service led by the Brothers from the Malawi Province. During this sacred gathering, the delegates commemorated the passing of the late Superior General, Br. Augustine Kubdaar, and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul. After the service, the delegates shared breakfast and prepared themselves for the day’s central activity: the election of a new Superior General.

The morning session opened at 9.00am with the Vicar General reading a goodwill message from the Superior General of the CMM Brothers. The Moderator then urged all delegates to maintain a serene and peaceful atmosphere throughout the election process.

Before the election, the members of the General Council conducted a powerful prayer service to spiritually prepare the delegates. Together, they invoked the Holy Spirit for wisdom, understanding, and discernment, while also seeking the inspiration of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Patroness of the Congregation, and the intercessions of the Founders, Mgr. Ludovicus Rutten and Br. Bernard Hoecken.

The rules governing the election, as outlined in the Constitution and Congregational Statutes, were read aloud. The election itself proceeded solemnly and smoothly through secret balloting. By God’s grace and the delegates’ prayerful discernment, the process was swift and decisive. Br. Prof. Clement Naapire was elected Superior General, and Br. Michael Sidharta was elected Vicar General, both in the first round of voting. The delegates expressed deep gratitude and joy at the outcome, and the second session was devoted to celebration and thanksgiving.

Evaluation of the Chapter

At 3:30 p.m., the third session commenced with an evaluation of the Extraordinary Chapter. Delegates took turns sharing their reflections, and the overall assessment was highly positive. The planning and conduct of the Chapter were commended, with special appreciation extended to the General Council and the Indonesia Province for their successful organisation and hosting.

In his closing remarks, the newly elected Superior General, Br. Prof. Clement Naapire, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all and sundry and officially declared the Chapter closed. The day concluded with a solemn Eucharistic celebration, followed by supper and recreation. Day Four was marked by prayer, discernment, unity, and joy. It was a truly memorable day in the life of the Congregation.
