A TAPESTRY OF FAITH AND FRATERNITY

The second day of the Extraordinary Chapter of the FIC Brothers was a meaningful day of prayer, discussion, and fraternity. The brothers gathered in a spirit of faith and openness to continue their preparations for the election of new congregational leadership.

Morning Session

Br. Sidharta dan Br. Martin

The day began with a morning prayer led by the delegates from Ghana. The brothers reflected on the theme of Leadership and Service and prayed for the Holy Spirit's guidance throughout the election process. We asked God to grant wisdom and integrity to those who would be chosen to serve the congregation.

After breakfast, the assembly met at 9:00 a.m. under the guidance of the moderator, Bro. Martinus Tukir Handoko. The brothers continued discussions that had begun the previous day. Working in mixed groups, they identified the qualities required of a Superior General and a General Councillor. These qualities were grouped into four areas: psychological maturity, physical ability, experience, and management skills. The groups later presented their findings in a plenary session.

Midday Session

After a tea break, the moderator explained the election process. Bro. Michael Sidharta Susila, the President of the chapter, read the relevant sections of the FIC Constitutions that set out the qualifications for the office of Superior General.

The brothers then met in their provincial groups to propose five candidates for consideration. This was a period of careful reflection and discernment, as each province identified brothers it believed could serve the congregation well.

Afternoon Session

At 3:30 p.m., the brothers returned to mixed groups to review and discuss the names proposed by the provinces. After prayerful consideration, each group selected five names to submit to the plenary assembly.

Following the afternoon tea break, the plenary session examined and discussed the proposed candidates. The list was gradually reduced to five names. The candidates were then asked about their availability for the role of General Superior. To help the brothers gauge the level of support for each candidate, a provisional ballot was conducted. Delegates were asked to reflect on and pray about the results of this provisional ballot pending the actual election.

Evening Activities

At the end of the day's work, the moderator encouraged all participants to continue praying for the election process. The Ghana Province once again led the assembly in the closing prayer.

The brothers then celebrated the Eucharist at 6:15 p.m. and shared supper at 7:00 p.m. Afterwards, they washed the dishes and utensils together, demonstrating the spirit of humility and brotherhood that characterizes the FIC Congregation.

The day ended with a period of recreation, fellowship, and joyful conversation before the brothers retired for the night. It was a productive and grace-filled day, marked by prayer, hard work, mutual support, and trust in the Holy Spirit's guidance.
