We thank God for the gift of life, we also pray for those gone before us due to COVID-19 pandemic. This has been a difficult year for most of us, as the world struggles to contain the spread of coronavirus. In Malawi, as at 1st June 2021 the COVID 19 positive cases have been increasing alarmingly. For example, on 27th July, there were 743 new cases and 27 deaths, and this trend continues even as we enter into August 2021. This is according to the daily updates from Ministry of Health. The country run out of the vaccine mid-June this year and has received 192 000 Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine on 24th July. On Monday, 26th July, throughout the country thousands of people thronged to vaccination centers to get either their first or second jabs. Despite the surging numbers of positive cases, some Malawians are still reluctant to either go for the vaccine or adhere to the preventive measures as advised by our Health Personnel from the Ministry of Health and church leaders. Currently, public transport, hotels, and schools continue to operate with some restrictions in place. Security officers are seen in some strategic places in towns enforcing compliance of COVID-19 preventive measures. Hand washing or hand sanitizing is compulsory before entering shops, banks, restaurants, bars, etc. The economy of the country has been falling, a hike in fuel prices, groceries, and our borders restrict entry of foreign nationals. As we pray for the whole world, we also pray for our country to be healed from this pandemic. We urge our fellow brothers and sisters to adhere to the precautionary measures to avoid catching the coronavirus.
