Provincial Day/Family Feast 2017 (Ghana Province)

PROVINCIAL DAY/FAMILY FEAST 2017

21ST NOVEMBER, 2017

IN-SERVICE TRAINING CENTRE, WA

THEME: Gratitude to God for our Call to Discipleship

The 2017 family feast celebration commenced with a prayer service organized and led by the liturgy committee of the Ghana province. The prayer service began at 8:00am and ended at 8:40am. The annual celebration of our family feast as brothers is an essential part of our life because it is an occasion for a family reunion, merry making, and a moment to discuss issues of interest. It was also an occasion to celebrate our jubilarians.

After the prayer, the participants were privileged to benefit from a talk on the theme: “Understanding Depression and Suicide”. It was delivered by Bro. Augustine Kubdaar, FIC. The talk was aimed at creating awareness among brothers to help them avoid the danger of going into depression and suicide and also be able to identify the symptoms of depressions in the communities.

The brothers also benefitted from an overview of the Vatican Document:  “The Identity and Mission of the Religious Brother in the Church,” given by the General Superior Bro. Martinus T. Handoko. He explained what it means to be a brother, the consequences of being called a brother, the biblical connotation of the brotherhood and the ecclesial conception of the vocation of the brother. It was a very good talk.

Still, as part of the feast, the Provincial Superior and the General Superior took turns to brief the house on recent developments in the congregation. This lasted up to lunch break at 12:30pm.

The afternoon session was a quality time spent playing volley ball among the brothers. It was interesting to see brothers exercising rigorously. The day was climaxed with a Eucharistic celebration of the Jubilees of Bro. Maarten Bouw, sixty years of religious life, and the silver jubilees of Bros. Serious Sentu, and Raphael Besigrnee. In the same ceremony, the brothers marked the successful end of the working visit of the General Superior and his counselor (Br. Theodorus Suwariyanto) to the Brothers FIC to Ghana Province. It was a joyful thanksgiving mass in which our Dutch lay friends Mr. Theodorus Johannes Wilhelmus Van De Ven and Mr. Martien Van De Ven shared in our rejoicing.

The day ended with supper and recreation in a grand style with array of cultural dances and poetry recitals from the FIC St. Louis Educational Complex, Wa. The brothers retired to their rooms with joyfully faces anticipating the dawn of and family feast. Thanks be to God!
