Outing to Mole National Park/Saturday 7 November 2015.
Saturday is a free day and it is the only day for all the participants to have a chance to go out together. We left Wa at 08.15 carried by a brand new School Bus “ Zhong Tong Bus” donation from Peoples Republic of China. As usual we started with prayer in the bus, asking God to protect our journey. The road was smooth and as usual there were not many vehicles on the road. We covered the distance of 175 km.
First we visited a “Mystic Stone” in the village Larabanga. All the people in this village are Muslims. This stone is found in Larabanga in the northern region of Ghana. It is believed to be a mysterious stone because of its powerful acts among the traditional people of the area. According to the story this mystic stone has a magic. Even if someone removed from the place it will come back. When people built the road through this place it did not work. That is why the road was built some meters away from this place. The stone has a power to protect the people, to prevent the “slave trade” where the people were carried to be sold as slaves. People believe that the mystic stone can help people who are praying to get a blessing from God.
At 11.00 we arrived at Mole National Park. First we entered the museum that provides some information about the animals. We left the bus in the compound of the office and we went into the park with special vehicles where we sat on top of the vehicles. It was made with special design for safari.
It is a big game reserve that covers the area of 4577 (four thousand five hundred seventy seven) kilometer square. (4577 km2). It is more or less as big as them Netherland. The government of the Netherlands and the government of Ghana work hand in hand to do the management of the Park. There are 403 elephants and other 93 different animals in the park. After some time we stopped, got out from the vehicles, followed the guards to come closer to see some elephants. First we saw black big elephant alone, then later accompanied by another one. We moved slowly further to watch another big elephant on the small stream/river. These are very big animals, far bigger than elephants we have seen in other countries such as Malawi, or Zambia. According to the people in charge of the tour, each elephant can drink 60 litres water per day. The time of pregnancy for female elephant is 22 months ! It seems, to see the biggest animals on earth was enough not to spend more time to watch other animals. There many people to admire these animals. Some of them were students of Tamale Secondary Schools, Students of Damongo Agriculture College and many more.
From the park we went to the guest house of Damongo Diocese to have Lunch. We brought our own food and drink. After Lunch we proceed to Wa and arrived at 18.00. Thanks to the Brothers of Ghana who organized this trip.
