15.11.2024 14:29:01 61x read. NETHERLANDS Desease dear late bro. Wim Luiten, FIC Dear Brothers, and Associate Members,
It is our sad duty to inform you about the death of Bro. Wim Luiten on November 11, 2024.
The mourning card reads as follows:
Congregation of the Brothers of the Immaculate Conception of Mary
You knit me together in my mother's womb, you brought me into being.
I thank you, because it is wonderful how I am made.
Everything you make is wonderful. I realise that very well. (Psalm 139)
Dismayed by the rapid unforeseen events and with a sad heart we inform you of the sudden death of
Brother Wim Luiten FIC
Wilhelmus Petrus
Superior Religious House The Netherlands
Wim was born on March 13, 1950 in Heemstede.
On August 17, 1975 he took his vows in our congregation FIC.
On November 11, 2024 he passed away in the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam.
Brother Wim's life was dedicated to brotherly service.
After having trained in woodworking, construction, technical drawing and architecture, he was sent to our brothers in Ghana at the age of 26. There he gave theoretical and practical lessons at the Technical School in Kaleo for many years. He then became manager of a Cooperative Organisation known as PEPS-C in Nandom, which helped small production companies to become exploitable through joint purchasing and financing. In 2000, under the practical and inspiring leadership of brother Wim, a new building was moved into in Wa, designed and drawn by himself.
In 2003 he repatriated to the Netherlands after he had done his work in Ghana and still felt energetic enough to serve his Dutch fellow brothers. In 2006 he was elected to the Provincial Council and re-elected in 2012. Wim had good contact with the brothers and was loved by them for his listening ear and his sincere compassion. He also enjoyed practical work: he worked on the De Schark estate near the St. Pietersberg, and also chairman of the Schark committee and diligently restored many cupboards in the Beyart workshop. In March 2017, the Dutch Province became a Religious House and Wim became the Coordinator. In November 2018, a new council was elected: Wim became the new Superior. He put all his energy into the main task of the council: caring for the fellow brothers and being close to them and guiding them. He did that with great feeling until his untimely death.
Wim was a spiritual person, who felt the Eternal close to him and cared for his Creation. He was committed to a sustainable Mother Earth as a home for all people. He walked the “Camino” to Santiago de Compostela twice. Wim cherished his friendships, in and outside the FIC. He loved his brothers and sisters and their children very much and sympathized with them. Wim was a true brother: simple and pleasant, and a person to love.
We will say goodbye to Brother Wim on Saturday 16 November at 2.30 pm in the Basilica of Saint Servatius, Keizer Karelplein, Maastricht. We will then lay him to rest at the cemetery of the Brothers FIC at Anjoulaan in Maastricht.
For a photograph of Bro. Wim, we refer to the attachment. May he rest in perfect peace.
