It is our sad duty to inform you about the passing away of Bro. Joop Maas on August 11, 2020.

The text of the mourning card reads as follows:

Brother JOOP MAAS FIC

He was born on September 2, 1924 in Leiden.

On August 15, 1946, he committed himself to the Brothers FIC by making his vows, as Brother Donatius.

He passed away in the residential care centre De Beyart in Maastricht on August 11, 2020.

After obtaining his teaching certificate in 1945, he worked in primary education until 1980. He was also active in extracurricular youth work. He did this with a lot of passion and pleasure. He went to camp with the youth, travelled through the country with hiking groups and conducted children's choirs. Music and singing have played a major role in his life, with as witness the large collection of LP records he had in his room. During the period that he lived in Nijmegen, in addition to his household tasks, he made himself useful with braille work and he worked at the Higher Catechetical Institute. When the community at Sterreschansweg was closed in 2010, he moved to the residential care centre De Beyart in Maastricht, the former mother house of the brothers FIC, where he received the care that he increasingly needed. Brother Joop's life was marked by service. In him we lose a faithful and caring brother.

We say goodbye to him in private in the chapel of De Beyart on Tuesday August 18, at 14.30 pm, after which he will be buried at the cemetery of the Brothers FIC near the Anjoulaan.
