Desease Bro. Aloysio van den Broek (The Netherlands Province)

Dear Brothers,

It is our sad duty to inform you about the passing away of Bro. Aloysio van den Broek on 15 January 2017.

The text of the mourning card reads as follows:

"   Congregation of the Brothers of the Immaculate Conception of Mary

‘ I could ask the darkness to hide me, or the light around me to turn into night,

but even darkness is not dark for you, and the night is as bright as the day.

Darkness and light are the same to you.’    (Psalm 139)

After a lifetime of service to fellow people and his Lord we have to say goodbye to our faithful family member and fellow brother

Brother Aloysio FIC

Geert van den Broek

He was born on August 28, 1923 in The Hague. On August 15, 1944 he committed himself to the FIC Congregation. He passed away on January 15, 2017 in Residential Care Centre De Beyart.

After his profession he worked as a teacher in brother schools in The Netherlands and the Juvenist education in Zevenaar.

Bro. Aloysio was a very committed man. From the spirituality of the FIC Congregation he has been searching the right path in order to find poor fellow people. He was sent as a missionary to Malawi and Pakistan. In Malawi, he was director of the secondary school in Mzedi. In 1980 he was transferred to Multan in Pakistan. There he functioned as a catechist and staff member of the Pastoral Institute.

Aloysio was a man of many talents, intellectually and creatively. His murals in several churches in Malawi were known. In 1995 he was nominated for his achievements as Knight in the Order of Orange Nassau.

In 1998 he repatriated to The Netherlands and joined the community in Rotterdam, where he became a member of the local council. Until high age he remained an active brother who paid attention to his confreres and family. In him we have lost a remarkable man who tried to realize his ideals in our fraternal community.

We say goodbye to Brother Aloysio in the Eucharistic celebration in the chapel of De Beyart on January 19, starting at 14.30. After that, he will be buried at our monastery cemetery at the Anjoulaan in Maastricht.

On behalf of the FIC Congregation and Community "Overkant":
