MALAWI THE CYCLONE ANA HITS MALAWI THE CYCLONE ANA HITS MALAWI On January 22nd, 2022, the Cyclone Ana formed over the Indian Ocean started moving westwards, passing over northern Madagascar and crossed over to Mozambique and subsequently reached our country Malawi. The storm came with heavy rainfall, and strong winds which caused many rivers to overflow and flood to other settlement areas causing damage to property, houses, plants and deaths. The Government of Malawi declared the state of emergency through the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services. The department informed the general public on January 24th, 2022, that the southern region of Malawi will be greatly affected by the storm. According to the department, some of the districts such as Lilongwe, Chiradzulu, Thyolo, Balaka, Machinga, Zomba, Mulanje and Phalombe were said to be more likely on danger as the storm was entering through those districts at a speed of 40km/hr and the wind speed of 100km/hr.
