Our apostolic work in the light of the teaching of the Church, LAUDATO SI. (Rome 24 May 2015)

Laudato Si: “On Care for our Common Home”

On Care for Our Common Home (Laudato Si') is the new appeal from Pope Francis addressed to "every person living on this planet" for an inclusive dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet. Pope Francis calls the Church and the world to acknowledge the urgency of our environmental challenges and to join him in embarking on a new path. This encyclical is written with both hope and resolve, looking to our common future with candor and humility.

The goal of Laudato Si: “Our goal is not to amass information or to satisfy curiosity, but rather to become painfully aware, to dare to turn what is happening to the world into our personal suffering and thus to discover what each of us can do about it”(Laudato Si no. 19)

Note: “What is happening in the world is a continuous acceleration of changing that affect humanity and planet. Change is something desirable, yet it becomes a source of anxiety when it causes harm to the world and to the quality of life of much of humanity” (Laudato Si. No. 18)

Additional note from Laborem Exercens on work and it disadvantages: Work as perennial (constantly occurring) and fundamental, is always relevant and constantly demands renewal attention, and decisive witness. Because fresh questions and problems are always arising, there are always fresh hopes, but also fresh fears and threats in the sense that sometimes work contains the unceasing measure of human toil and suffering and also the harm and injustice which penetrate deeply into social life within individual nations and on the international level. (Laborem Exercens no 1, par. 2)

“Sometimes, work contains the unceasing measure of human toil and suffering.......” (LE no 1, paragraph 2).

Some important points of the Laodato Si.
1. “It is a revision of the teaching of the Catholic Church. Now with this new papacy in the twenty-first century we are witnessing a break with the theology of dominion in favour of a theology of caring and harmony”. (Tablet 20 June 2015, p. 4)
