25 YEARS AS A FIC BROTHER

Introduction

I was born in a family of four, three boys and a girl, in a small farming village in the Southern part of Malawi, Thyolo district, Traditional Authority (T/A) Bvumbwe, Nkaombe village. I am the second born. 

I lost my father at an early age and I grew up with my mother. My father worked as a clerk at 

Amalika Forest reserve while my mother was a subsistence famer. Although she had never been to school herself, she was a very firm believer in education. At an early age, she sent me to school and always followed up that every other school day, I should be in the school learning.  Absenting oneself from school without a good cause was not accepted in my family. She was very strict on this.

With her little financial means, she sent me and my other sibling to school and unfortunately, my younger brother dropped out of school and married at an early age. This did not deter her from insisting that I continue go to school.
