Bro. Ignatius Dalimin, FIC

5 August 1949 – 3 September 2024

Brother Ignatius Dalimin, FIC, was born in Krompakan, Sendang Mulyo, Minggir, Sleman on August 5, 1949, the son of the late Mr. Karijadimedja and the late Mrs. Sidjum Karijadimedja. Brother Ignatius is the second of four siblings. He entered the FIC Brothers’ novitiate on December 30, 1972. He made his First Profession on December 8, 1974, and his Perpetual Profession on December 7, 1980. This year, on December 8, 2024, he is supposed to celebrate 50 years of dedicated service as an FIC Brother. However, on July 2, 2024, the FIC Brothers in Indonesia already celebrated his 50 years of dedicated service.

Brother Ignatius, as he is called, is known for his simplicity, friendliness, neatness, diligence, humility, and his strong commitment to the virtues of brotherhood as an FIC Brother. He is generous and always open to helping those in need. Consequently, Brother Ignatius is greatly loved by his fellow brothers and his apostolic colleagues. His devotion to the Virgin Mary is deeply ingrained in him. In almost every place of apostolate entrusted to him, he has established facilities for devotion to the Virgin Mary.

After making his first profession in 1976, he was assigned as a teacher at Usaba Elementary School and Ketapang Dormitory from 1976 to 1979. From 1979 to 1985, he transfered to Surakarta as a teacher at Pangudi Luhur Elementary School while also studying at UNISRI. From 1985 to 1989, he transfered to the Boro Community as the Local Superior and taught at Pangudi Luhur Elementary and Middle Schools.

From 1989 to 1992, he was assigned to Ambarawa as the Local Superior, dormitory head, and Chief of the YPL Ambarawa Branches. From 1992 to 2000, he moved to Ketapang, West Kalimantan, where he served as the Local Superior, Principal of Usaba Elementary School, and Chief of the YPL Ketapang Branches. From 2000 to 2002, he was assigned to Boro, where he served as the Chief of Santa Maria Orphanage. From 2002 to 2004, he was transferred to Randusari, Semarang, where he served as the Local Superior and Coordinator of Xaverius Kindergarten and Elementary School. From 2004 to 2006, he received a new assignment as the Principal of St. Yusup Kindergarten and Elementary School in Semarang. From 2006 to 2013, he moved to Muntilan, where he served as the Local Superior and Principal of Ignatius Elementary School. From 2013 to 2016, he was transferred to Surakarta, where he served as the Coordinator of Timotius Kindergarten and Elementary School. Since July 2016, he has been serving as the Coordinator of Valentinus Kindergarten and Elementary School in Surakarta.

Brother Ignatius’s health began to decline after undergoing hernia surgery in early January 2018 in Surakarta. He had to return to the hospital several times as the surgical wound did not heal promptly. His health further deteriorated from early January 2024, as he experienced digestive system issues, leading to a decrease in his stamina. Consequently, since January 2024, Brother Ignatius has spent much of his time at Wisma Bernardus in Semarang to receive intensive medical care at Elisabeth Hospital in Semarang. He has had to be admitted to and discharged from Elisabeth Hospital several times.

Accompanied by brothers from the Candi Semarang Community and Wisma Bernardus, Brother Ignatius received the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick from Father Tri Widayatno, MSF, at Elisabeth Hospital on Sunday, September 1, 2024. The following day, Monday, September 2, 2024, with strong determination, Brother Ignatius Dalimin requested to return to Wisma Bernardus. He wished to stay among his fellow brothers at Wisma Bernardus.

On Tuesday morning, September 3, 2024, at 7:40 AM, Brother Ignatius Dalimin passed away. He began his journey to eternity, towards eternal peace with the God he loved, supported by the affection of his brothers at Wisma Bernardus. Brother Ignatius Dalimin wished to complete his life’s offering within the loving embrace of his brothers in the Congregation of the FIC Brothers. Farewell, Brother Ignatius. Congratulations on your steadfastness in nurturing the sacred gift of life as an FIC Brother.

The funeral ceremony will be held on Wednesday, September 4, in Muntilan. Brother Ignatius Dalimin will be laid to rest in the FIC Brothers’ cemetery at the Novitiate Complex in Muntilan.
