Second Day.
The second day began with an integrated liturgy of the Eucharist and Lauds. The facilitator Rev. Fr. Dominic Apee presided over the mass. The ministries of the liturgy of the Mass were coordinated by the group in charge of liturgy for the day.
After the Eucharistic celebration was breakfast at 7:00am. The first session of the day commenced at 8:00am. The facilitator explained the meaning of leadership and created a scenario where volunteers in pairs holding one pen tried to draw a house of their choice without communicating. It was noticed that each had an idea of the type of house to draw; but without talking to each other there was a great confusion as to what type of house to draw and where to begin from. Consequently, they came out with a structure which was not their intended house. As such, none of them owned the house drawn by the pair. It is in the light of this that the facilitator reiterated the importance of communication for effective leadership in every human institution.
The facilitator pointed out that every human set-up goes through a transforming experience into an authentic action or role framework. He said there are four domains within this transforming experience framework namely; the experience of being in context; the experience of being in a system (purpose); the experience of being a person and the experience of connectedness to a faith source. He said for the leader to be effective in taking up roles he must have adequate knowledge of all these domains.
The participants were put into six groups of six members each to discuss and come out with an image that could be identified as the FIC based on the group’s knowledge of the FIC as a Congregation.
The participants went on lunch break and siesta and resumed at 3:00pm for part two of day two which was group presentations.
The following were the images of the FIC Congregation per the discussion of the groups;
Group one- presented a tree of life as their image of the FIC; group two gave a hub connected with spokes to a wheel; group three’s symbol was also tree; group four had a potted flower plant as their symbol; group five came out with a complex diagram comprising of a tree, an onion and four circles as the members of the Congregation and group six’s image was a Bible placed in the center of a circle of five cartoons as the five provinces and their boundaries. The groups gave various explanations to their images.
Generally, the facilitator wanted participants to establish the fact that a leader must always know what she/he is doing and try to situate his/her leadership within the global state of life.
