El presente de nuestra Congregación en Chile, esperanza y realidad.

Desde que la Congregación fundó la misión en Chile en 1953 muchos hermanos han dado su vida por Dios y por la gente de Chile. Crearon el ambiente educativo necesario para que niños y jóvenes crecieran en la fe, en el amor, la cultura y accedieran a unas condiciones de vida esperanzadoras.

Actualmente el espíritu FIC se mantiene en cinco obras existentes: La Escuela Hermano Bernardo (1980) atiende necesidades especiales y la Escuela San Antonio (1986) recibe niños de Educación Básica, los Centros educacionales Alberto Hurtado (1960) y Luis Rutten (1993) son escuelas técnico profesionales. Las escuelas están dirigidas por laicos. La Fundación Ludovico Rutten (1966) entrega capacitación para el trabajo y está dirigida por un hermano.

La provincia chilena está integrada por 5 hermanos chilenos, 2 holandeses, 2 españoles y 1 indonesio. Es una diversidad cultural que experimentamos como uno de los signos del tiempo presente. En 2014 nos visitaron cuatro hermanos venidos de Indonesia, Ghana y Malawi y conocieron la novedad de la misión en Chile. Esta visita llamada orientativa, ha fortalecido nuestra vida comunitaria invitándonos a cuidarla y promoverla. Pero no sólo queremos que nos visiten, sino también que permanezcan en la comunidad chilena como ya lo han hecho varios hermanos indonesios.

Estamos conscientes de la escasez de vocaciones y de jóvenes que optan por la vida religiosa. Nosotros queremos seguir con las puertas abiertas a nuevos hermanos en este tiempo posmoderno que parece opacar o desincentivar la vida religiosa. Es verdad que los jóvenes, inmersos en la sociedad del consumo y el individualismo, reciben llamados de muy diversas procedencias y pueden responder buscando éxitos inmediatos. Pero a la vez percibimos que los jóvenes son sensibles a las dificultades humanas y están dispuestos a activar la solidaridad con otros. Es necesario renovar nuestra forma de invitarles a tomar la vocación en sus manos de forma libre, y de entender el momento oportuno y maduro para un compromiso definitivo en la vida religiosa.

La comunidad de hermanos en Chile vive un proceso de discernimiento y búsqueda de una fraternidad genuina. Siendo pocos hermanos las diferencias en las relaciones interpersonales se evidencia más. Vimos que era necesario mejorar y fortalecer nuestra vida comunitaria y cultivar nuestras relaciones de forma positiva. Por eso celebramos encuentros y procuramos ayudas que nos hacen progresar personal y comunitariamente en humanidad y en espíritu fraterno.

Participamos en el Viaje para el enriquecimiento espiritual: Varios hermanos han participado en este Viaje Congregacional. El Viaje continuó en Chile de una forma particular. Se adaptó el programa original e incorporamos al viaje varias laicas que participaban coordinando la Evangelización en los centros educacionales FIC.

Esto ha significado entrar en un proceso que nos ha llevado al encuentro entre hermanos y laicos que quieren desarrollar su vida personal y espiritual desde el compromiso con la misión FIC. Para nosotros es importante desarrollar mejor la misión que compartimos y creemos que esto será incompleto si no profundizamos en lo que significa la misión y la vida compartidas.

Desde 2008, los hermanos establecieron en los centros educativos de nuestra provincia un equipo que velara por el desarrollo de las obras FIC. Es el Equipo de Gestión. Con ello se quería mostrar y potenciar las experiencias educativas exitosas FIC y a la vez velar por el futuro de las escuelas. Se celebraron encuentros centrados en la Misión Compartida, en la búsqueda de vocaciones laicas para la misión y en una visión de futuro. De esta forma hemos querido conformar equipos directivos cada vez más profesionales y responsables de llevar adelante la misión desde un Ideario FIC sobre la Educación para servir a los postergados de la sociedad desde una perspectiva evangélica a través de una educación de calidad. La idea fuerza que nos activa hoy es la evangelización desde la Pedagogía de Jesús que implica concretar e intencionar las actitudes de Jesús para con los educadores, los estudiantes y los padres.

La FIC está agradecida por la credibilidad entre la gente, confianza y respeto por las obras realizadas en Chile. Nos dan esperanza las semillas sembradas que ya están dando fruto. Mucha gente necesitada logra desarrollos superiores de educación saliendo de la pobreza que los mantenía cautivos. Hay barrios que llevan el sello FIC. Abiertos a la interacción con otros credos religiosos. Hoy, cuando se discute una reforma educacional que actúe sin fines de lucro y promueva la calidad de su enseñanza podemos decir que las obras educacionales FIC ya dieron ese paso hace varios años y seguimos mejorando.

Por eso, para festejar los 175 años de la Congregación hemos celebrado un Congreso de Educación de los centros educacionales FIC mostrando las ideas innovadoras de cada centro y aquellas experiencias que nos van mostrando un avance significativo en las formas de educar y en el espíritu que las inspira que no es otro que el Evangelio concretado por nuestros fundadores Luis Rutten y Bernardo Hoecken.

Podemos decir que la historia FIC continúa en Chile. A nivel personal y comunitario vivimos procesos personales que dan esperanza de una vida más feliz. En la misión estamos más abiertos al aporte de los laicos que asumen su responsabilidad y nos apoyan decididamente. Agradecidos por los hermanos y laicos que nos han precedido en la misión vivimos el presente con pasión y el futuro con esperanza.

The present and future of the Congregation in Chile; our hope and reality.

When the FIC Congregation started its mission in Chile, that is 1953, many

brothers gave their life to God and for the Chilean People. They created the educational environment necessary for children and youngsters to grow in Faith, in Love, in culture and so provided very hopeful conditions to life .

At the moment the FIC spirit is lived in five existing areas: San. Bernardo School which focuses on special education, San. Antonio School which provides basic education, and Centres of Education Alberto Hurtado and Luis Rutten, both of which are professional technical schools. All these are directed by lay people. However, Ludovico Rutten Foundation is the only institution directed by a brother and this gives training to people for the working world.

The Chilean Province is composed of 5 Chileans, 2 Dutch, 2 Spanish, and 1 Indonesian. We therefore have a cultural diversity which we see as a sign of the present time. In 2014 four brothers from Indonesia, Ghana and Malawi visited us and had the opportunity to experience the newness of our mission in Chile.

This so-called orientation visit strengthened our community life and has given us the enthusiasm to promote it. But we don't like that brothers only come to visit us and go back. Rather we hope they will be able to maintain their presence for a long time in the Chilean Community as done by several Indonesian brothers.

We are aware of the shortage of vocations in all our provinces; and very few young people now opt for religious life. We want to open our doors for brothers in this post modern time which is appears dull or seems to discourage the living of religious life. It is true that young people, immersed in a society of consumerism and individualism, receive calls from very diverse areas that promise them immediate success. But at the same time we see that young people are sensitive to human difficulties and are willing to reactivate their solidarity with others. It is important that we renew our way of inviting them to take the religious vocation into their hands in a free way, and to give them the opportunity to gain sufficient maturity for final commitment in the religious life.

The community of brothers in Chile is undergoing a process of discernment and pursuit of genuine brotherhood. Being only few a brothers, differences in interpersonal relationship are more and more evident. We saw that it was necessary to improve and strengthen our community life, and cultivate our relationships in a positive way. Therefore we organized meetings and sought assistance that allowed us to progress collectively in a human and brotherly spirit.

Having participated in the FIC Journey for Spiritual enrichment, several of our brothers now have found ways to continue the journey in innovative ways. Adapting the original program, they have combined their efforts with several lay women who are coordinating the activities of evangelization in the FIC educational center. This has given birth to a process that has led to meetings between brothers and lay people who want to develop their personal and spiritual lives according to the FIC charism. For us it is important to develop the mission that we have together, believing that this will be incomplete if we do not delve into what it means to share our life and mission.

Since 2008, the brothers have established for the schools a management team to ensure the development of the FIC apostolate. The team intends to promote educational practices of FIC apostolate and at the same time safeguard the future of the schools. We held meetings based on this shared mission, in order to search for lay vocations to carry out the mission and a vision set by the team. We intend to build management teams that are professional and responsible for carrying out the mission and vision of FIC based on educational programs that will serve the needs of the neglected in society from an evangelical perspective. The basic idea that guides us now is the style of evangelization of Jesus, which involves studying and making concrete the intentions and attitudes of Jesus. And this should be promoted at the level of the educators, the students and parents.

As FIC we are grateful that people have recognized our credibility. We are grateful for the trust and respect the people have for the works carried out in Chile. The seeds are already bearing fruit and this gives us hope. Many needy people have achieved higher education and this development has brought many out of poverty. There are neighborhoods that bear the stamp of FIC. We are open regarding our interaction with other religious faiths. Concerning educational reforms in non-profit ways and quality of teaching we can say that FIC apostolate has achieved these several years ago and will continue to enhance these.

Therefore, to celebrate 175 years of the Congregation's foundation we held a Congress on Education of all FIC educational centers to exhibit the innovative ideas of each centre, knowledge which demonstrate significant progress in educational practice, and ideas which inspires or exemplifies the Gospel values or the spirit of our founders Louis Rutten and Bernardus Hoecken. We can say that the FIC story continues in Chile. At both personal and community levels some developments have given us hope for life. In terms of our mission we are more open to the contribution of the laity, who assume their responsibility and support us. We are grateful to those missionary brothers and lay people who started this work and have gone before us. In the same spirit of mission we try to live the present with passion and the future with hope.
