Dear Brothers,

It is our sad duty to inform you about the passing away of Bro. Resignatus Geertjens on 30 August 2016.

The text of the mourning card reads as follows:

"   Congregation of the Brothers of the Immaculate Conception of Mary

          'Wisdom shines brightly and never fades.

          She is easily recognized by those who love her

          and found by those who seek her.'  (Wisdom 6:12)

After a lifetime of service to fellow people and his Lord we have to say goodbye to our loyal family member and fellow brother

Brother Resignatus Geertjens FIC

He was born in Maastricht on July 6, 1926. On August 15, 1946 he committed himself to the FIC Congregation by making his vows. He died on Tuesday, August 30 at the Residential Care Center De Beyart in Maastricht.

At the celebration of his 70th profession anniversary on August 15 this year, he was characterized in a speech as a "practical intellectual". He had broad interests and devoured one after another book, which he took out weekly from the town library. Practical, because he always actually worked with his hands. He has been working for 38 years in education and was specially concerned about the least gifted students. After retiring as a teacher he made himself meritorious by dealing with all kinds of practical work: for many years he could be found daily in the kitchen washing dishes, and he has served as a night watchman.

Because of declining strength Bro. Resignatus had to let go of his activities and he could often be found in his room with a book in his hands. It was in this pose, that he is quietly and peaceful gone to his Lord.

We say goodbye to brother Resignatus during the Eucharistic celebration which will be held on Saturday, September 3 at 11.00 in the chapel of De Beyart. Afterwards he will be buried at our cemetery near the Anjoulaan in Maastricht.
